Even if WordPress already comes with a buildin and default author bio box you may like to add a link to the authors website or any kind of social media accounts in it. WordPress users have hundreds or even thousands of plugins to choose from. So there are plugins to add links to your social network profiles.
Author Box Reloaded (aka Author Box 2) is one of them. Author Box Reloaded provides a plugin concept for additional contact info. Author Box Reloaded Pack is an extension package which allows the author to define links to some wellknown external websites like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Xing and others. I’ve used that extension option to write plugin extensions to link to your Flickr, Github and Skype account.
Installation
The installation is pretty easy. The major prerequisite is that the WordPress Plugin Framework Reloaded, the Author Box Reloaded and the Author Box Reloaded Pack plugin is installed and activated.
Then download and copy all files (PHP scripts and images) to the directory <wordpress>/plugins/author-box-reloaded-pack. Login to your WordPress installation and activate one or more plugins of your choice. Open your personal user profile and insert the user id for your social networks.
See how a small icon and clickable link to the external website will be inserted at the end of your author box for each given social network user account. I have to admit that I’ve modified the underlaying theme. Therefore the layout of your author box might look slightly different.
